A Vision Quest with Kasey Mueller

Hello there! I’m Kasey Mueller, an award-winning conservation photographer, part-time wildlife whisperer, and full-time optimist. With decades of experience documenting the wild wonders of the world (and a few creature encounters that would make your heart race), I specialize in capturing moments that showcase nature’s resilience in the face of urban sprawl and climate change.
From the dense jungles of Ecuador to the grasslands of the Serengeti (and the occasional backyard), my lens often focuses on endangered species, disappearing habitats, and those little creatures that make the world go round—like insects that literally "hold everything together." My work tells stories of survival, adaptation, and co-existence.
I’m a photographer who thrives on collaboration. I have worked with Non-profits, NGOs, nature publications, scientific associations, and projects that support citizen science, scientific research, and conservation efforts worldwide. In short, I shoot to support. If you’re an agency or publication looking for compelling visuals that amplify your mission, look no further. I’m ready to help you tell your story in a way that will make people sit up, pay attention, and, ideally, take action.
When I’m not chasing elusive shots of wildlife or hanging out in urban environments capturing nature’s unlikely presence in cityscapes, I’m either in the woods near my Northern Idaho home or working on my latest passion project: a wildlife preserve that I run with my husband, Steve (aka Prince Charming), our three dogs (two Corgis and a Dachshund who think they’re wolves), and three cats. Yes, it’s a circus. And no, we don’t know what happened to the peace and serenity we were promised when we retired and moved to the Pacific Northwest.
In 2024, I made the leap from a long career in Human Resources Consulting to focus full-time on conservation photojournalism. A jump, yes, but one grounded in purpose. My work is guided by the belief that change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen—through careful attention, everyday actions, and hope. Inspired by the philosophies of Jane Goodall and Sir David Attenborough, I am convinced that we can help our planet bounce back. In my lifetime, I’ve seen species we thought were lost forever make incredible comebacks, and landscapes I thought were beyond repair slowly recover. It’s not just a matter of hope but of action—and yes, even small actions have ripple effects. If you’ve read this far, you’re part of the solution.
So, if you’re looking for a photographer who sees the world through a lens of hope and who knows that great photography can be a catalyst for change, I’d love to collaborate with you. Whether you’re working to raise awareness for a conservation project, create a visual narrative for a groundbreaking study, or want to make the world more beautiful and connected, I’m here for it. Let's capture the world as it is—and as it could be.

Ethical Wildlife Photography
-
This work follows the ethical guidelines for wildlife and bird photography published by the North American Nature Photography Association and the Audubon Society.
-
All aspects of the practice are guided by a commitment to sustainability. Travel plans are carefully scheduled to minimize carbon footprint whenever possible. All items in the shop are produced using high-quality, sustainable, or recycled materials, including bamboo art paper, recycled aluminum, and reclaimed barn wood frames.
-
The goal of these images is to foster understanding, spark empathy, and deepen connections to wildlife and nature—while providing moments of inspiration. They are intended to support advocacy for coexistence and encourage meaningful action, both small and large, to protect wildlife and slow climate change.
-
All photographs depict truly wild subjects and are created without baiting, lures, or artificial attractants. Every effort is made to limit disruptions to natural behaviors, with the welfare of wildlife and natural environments remaining the top priority.
-
Photography assignments, conservation and research support, and citizen scientist outings are available. Workshops and educational sessions for camera clubs can also be arranged.
