Endangered Species Projects
In the vast plains of the Serengeti, where the sun blazes hot and the grass stretches as far as the eye can see, a remarkable discovery is changing the fate of the cheetah population. Kelvin Munsi and his team, pioneers of the Serengeti Cheetah Project, have unveiled the extraordinary role of "Super Moms" in the survival of this magnificent species. The research shows a stark contrast in cub survival rates between ordinary mothers and the exceptional "Super Moms," whose nurturing instincts elevate survival rates of cheetahs to an impressive 80-90%.
Super Moms are known to adopt abandoned cubs, providing them with the care and protection they need to thrive in the wild. Some female cheetahs adopted by Super Moms have become exceptional mothers, perpetuating the cycle of survival and ensuring the future of their species.

Andean Spectacled Bear Conservation
A little known fact about Andean Spectacled bears is that they spend a good part of every day nesting in trees. They build their nests with a handy stack of leaves to eat when they get nap time munchies. The Spectacled bear is endangered due to population growth and habitat loss- the trees that they rely on for food and shelter. It was an honor to be allowed witness these bears in their natural habitat. Currently theses bears are listed by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Vulnerable and WCS scientists in Andean bear range countries are developing new tools and protocols to evaluate and understand the current distribution of bear populations.
Kyambura Gorge, a sunken rain forest carved into southwestern Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to an isolated family of 42 chimpanzees who have been dubbed the “Lost Chimpanzees of Kyambura Gorge” due to their isolation from other chimp populations. Thanks to the conservation efforts of @volcanoes_safaris who are safeguarding these endangered chimpanzees, working to restore their habitat, and reduce human-wildlife conflicts by engaging the community in the eco-tourism/conservation efforts.
